The new clean #makeupbrushes

Move over rubber glove. Sigma Beauty has a new gadget thats made cleaning our beloved tools a little more... um fun?

Who doesn't love smarter, faster, newer, better? Right.

This little gem has cut cleaning time down to a 1/3 and efficiency by two fold. Firstly, you only need one hand to clean with. Hello I felt like popping a champagne in the other! Welcome multiple brush cleansing, goodbye solo monotony. Finally hooray, no more quadruple rinsing the 'big guns (duo fibre, blush and bronzer brushes etc) after "what the" foam?? comes squelching out when you give them a little squeeze with the towel to speed up the drying process before their final stage 'sun bathing'.

In fact it's been so efficient i've almost completely needed to stop using Sard's wonder soap as my back up for those stubborn foundation brush stains.

A few steps still apply. Use a good quality dish soap such as Morning fresh. Wash and rinse brushes in luke warm water and as hot will set strong colours and cold.. well it's cold isn't it ;0

Contouring & highlighting - Shading & highlighting - Bring forward & recede.

Last month the AMAZING, talented & ever so experienced Donna Mee came to Australia to teach a private Contouring and Highlighting masterclass.

Keeping a finger on the pulse of the latest makeup and beauty trends I snapped up a ticket, lined up 30mins prior seriously eager to get a front row seat in the action!

In brief here are some of her 'highlighting' informed quotes from the days seminar;

- Attention goes first look to whatever is darkest colour firstly the face. Then it follows the line/angle

- Upward angles: attractive youthful fun

- Downward: tired, droop, old

- Inner rim hugs her eye and makes the eye look more lifted

- Corrective makeup 'science of light and dark' or 'contouring & highlighting

- Dark colours (contours). Make things appear smaller & appear to reduce

- Light colours (highlights). Make things appear larger & draws in your attention. Make things appear more pronounced

Imagine the face as a clay sculpture - where you would push back shade etc

- Black and white is best way to see where to highlight or contour

- Don't always highlight under the brow

- To bring an area forward some areas need an 'extra' lighter

- Shaping a nose don't do 'strips' and buff out. Darker where we need to know I back

AND FINALLY MY FAVOURITE: Highlighting should be ultra sheer and just a 'halo' of colour.

The "Powder Room"

The term 'powder room' dates back to the early 18th century, and was considered a closet-sized room where woman would go to have their wigs re powdered. The expression carried through to Victorian times, as a polite term to excuse ones self in the need of bodily function relief.  Coining the phrase i'm going to “powder my nose."

These days in the home, a powder room otherwise known as a guest bathroom is generally a small bathroom containing only a sink and toilet. Typically these bathrooms are very small, do not have a window and almost always are located on the first floor, often found tucked underneath a stairway. This placement allows guests to use the facilities without having to trespass into the homeowner’s private space.

If you have ever travelled Europe you will often find restaurants adorn their guest rooms /bathrooms/restrooms/WC’- wash closets in such lavish manner you feel a sense of royalty whilst going about your matter. On a recent trip to Czech Republic I found myself on a pub/restaurant bathroom photo mission capThese gorgeous little basement bathroom get ups seriously pack some baroque punch.

But first, "Let me take a selfie"

M.A.C PRO Master class seminar Autumn/Winter 2014

“This season, Beauty champions the individual”

Missed out on a spot at the highly sort after quick sell-out biannual MAC seminar last week in Sydney? Ladies, dry your eye’s, here’s a quick recap on what’s now trending the runways and soon your makeup kit!!

Masking and morphing feels irrelevant this season; a quiet alchemy of product and technique that nonchalantly amplifies what is unique in the face is the new stealth wealth of makeup. “The new luxury is in the individuality” confirms Gorden Espinet

A/W top 4's of 2014

Off colour: 'subverts classic tones with a dirty edge to become the new neutral'. Enhance what's naturally  there. Blur edges & bring back your 90's colour palate. Terracotta’s, brown based reds, woody pinks,  vibrant reds & brown lipsticks over the top in centre and buffed.

Streamlined: 'eyes have a gestural quality to them that widens the eye'. Imagine vibrant blue or yellow  lines underlining the brows. Soft washes of taupe’s on the eyes and lips or the ‘half Smokey eye’ with  pigment only outer half and clumpy eyelashes using tweezers to squeeze together lashes.

On reflection: 'explores how shine is the most crystallised direction of the season'                              Skincare, skincare, skincare - big impact in the effect you get with skin finish 'Shiny highlighting'            Taupe lipsticks on lips and eyes, with gloss ‘texture’ over top on the eyes.                                            Metallic’s, a big hit. Shine and lots of gold leaf.

Unprocessed: 'makeup employs the skin's own shades to embrace authenticity in every form'.             Heavily skincare focused. Heavy brows. White inner rim liner on the eyes. Clean, simple & bare faced.

"Needs to look free. Like they have done it themselves. If it looks like you have been there an hour take it off and do it again. Make sure it doesn't look too manufactured" - Nicole Thompson
